Christmas this year came and went pretty quickly!
I think it seemed like I blinked and it was here because life has been a whirlwind the past couple months. We went to Disney in the middle of November. Thanksgiving seemed to immediately follow that. My Granny’s 90th birthday party was just days after Thanksgiving and then Christmas Eve was here!
Our Christmas Eve traditions were at risk of being non-existent this year. My mom had to work…my sisters both live 8 hours away (in opposite directions…one north and one south!) and neither came home for Christmas…and there were no kids this year – my nephew is a 6 ft 6 in man-boy.
Our usual tradition includes: children’s mass at church, hors devours dinner, opening gift from our immediate family and one from my parents (usually something really special like concert tickets!), then Holiday Inn on tv.
This year though we threw the idea around of eating out or a sit down meal. I joked with my sister that it was a travesty that the traditions were going out the window!! But we pulled it together and had our meats and cheeses, the veggie tray, shrimp from Costco, and BBQ meatballs. We swapped the Children’s Mass for Midnight Mass and we watched almost all of Holiday Inn, the cookies weren’t homemade, but the sparkling grape juices flowed, and laughs were had by all.
See that bowl of pickles?? My mom and I almost ate the WHOLE jar BEFORE we even had dinner!!! Frickin DELICIOUS!!! And they’re made in Michigan too!! Local pickles for the WIN! Gotta find me some more…may have to order them online, but man…they are tasty.
